Butler at Trelawney house "Coldrennick". Known as "Gentleman John"; used to clean his shoes with a silk handkerchief. Did very well in NZ. Send NZ lamb to grandfather [John's father?] every Christmas. He took Brenton machinery to Doddycross - Syracuse plough they remember using. [Notes by FJ Leigh of interview with "Aunt Violet" 9/1/72] A park in Dunedin, NZ, is named after him. He was responsible for the planting of marram grass (to bind sand dunes?)56
