‘In a letter to Mrs Maton dated 9 Dec 1896, Ri. Grosvenor Bartlett says he thinks Henry Carslake ‘was son of Richard Carslake who was living at Sidbury in 1643

10WILL of HENRY CARSLAKE Dated 23 Feby 1670 [1671]

In the name of God, Amen, I Henery Carslake of Sidbery in the County of Devon within the Diesses of Exon being weke of bodey butt of perfit memory thanks be to God doe heere make my last Will and Testament --- First I give and bequeath my Soul to God that gave itt and my Bodey to a Cristean Beureall when and where it shal plese God to take mee out of this mortal lif and for my wordly Goods as follows:-
I give and bequeath unto my too Sonns John Carslake and Henry Carslake One thousand pound to be equaly devided betwext them and if my Executor and overseers doe bestow the sayd money in mens or any part therof then thay both or Ether of them shal take itt in leue of the sayde money or in any part therof so bestoed and after seven years if nott befor to goe to theare best benefit but that neither of them shal have the command or dispoes of it or any part thereof befor thay accomplish the age of twenty four years without my Executor and Overseers consent provided that if ether of them hapen to dye under the age of twenty one years the survivor to injoy the hole. I give and bequeath unto my three Dafters Mary Prudence and Sarey Tweef hundred pound to be devided amonge the three according to my Executor and Overseers descretion ether the wone more or the other lees as they may think fitt after seven years to goe to there best benefet if not befor to be payde up when my overseers see cause, provided if ther be any lose Considerabel my Sons & Dafters to baer it proportionabell I give unto the pore – Five pound to be desposed by my Executor Al the rest of my Goods & Chettels not formerly given I give unto my wif whom I make my hole and sole Executor – I doe desire Jerem Clape, Wiill Clape, Necles Whetten and Abraham Carslake to be my overseers and to assist my wife herein
