Barry Shipman was a senior screenwriter at Columbia and Republic Studios for movies and television. His career spanned over 40 years, beginning in 1934 with the film "Shakedown". His screenplays included the much acclaimed "Stranger at my Door" as well as numerous serials and television westerns such as episodes of Flash Gordon, The Lone Ranger, Dick Tracy, Zorro and Bonanza. During World War II Barry was a Major in the photographic unit of the Marine Corps. Barry also worked as a writer and producer of documentaries and training films at Norton Air Force Base . His final screenplay was based on the life of his mother, silent movie star Nell Shipman. As a boy Barry had appeared in her movies..
