‘Thomas Baron and John Leigh or Lee appear as lessees [of the manor of Sidmouth] in 1560 and on 10th September of that year they leased it with the tithes of fish, etc., to the three members of the Raleigh family, Walter and his sons Carew and Wallis. This deed is in the parish chest, and as it has never been printed is of the greatest local interest.
