[from Scope and Content] Witnessing that Sir John Petre on 24 November 34 Elizabeth [1591] leased to William Pole of Shute esq., reversion of parcels of land called Littelcombe, 140 acres, parcel of farm called Brannscombe farm in Branscombe, then in tenure of Richard Halse esq., from Halse's death for ? 90 years or the lives of Anne wife of John Ham and John and Jane children of John Ham, which Pole assigned to Ham the elder on 6 November 34 Elizabeth [1592];
[from Scope and Content] that Petre on 1 March last leased to John Ham the elder 5 closes called Deane landes, 70 acres, then parcel of Barnescombe or Branscombe farm with all buildings lately erected thereon, in tenure of the lessee, for 99 years or the lives of George, Walter and Thomas, John Ham's sons;
[from Scope and Content] that Petre on --- last leased to John Coxe alias Brewer messuage and close containing 4 acres lately parcel of Deane landes in Branscombe in Coxe's tenure, for --- years or the lives of John Cox and John and Christian his children;
[from Scope and Content] that because Petre stood seised of all above premises of an estate in tail, for the better assurance of the above leases, he levied a fine Michaelmas last to Peter Whetcombe gent. and Roger Branche of [? the premises] as 6 messuages, 4 gardens, 3 orchards, 400 acres land, 12 acres meadow, 200 acres pasture, 100 acres furse [and] heath in Combpyne and Branscombe, to the use of the said Lord Petre and Sir William Petre knight his son and heir for their lives, then to the use of Robert Petre esq. son and heir apparent of Sir William Petre and of the heirs male of Robert Petre's body, in default to the use of William Petre another son of Sir William and of the heirs male of his body, and in default to the use of the right heirs of Robert Petre for ever.
