‘..Seeing all these Naval connections ... makes me think even more so that
maybe my elusive gr gr grandfather, Henry Hook DANIEL (LS) (son of Samuel
DANIEL and Elizabeth HOOK mentioned here), did take off to OZ after all.
Perhaps one of his sea going relatives smuggled him aboard ship, LOL. who
knows. He was Christened 9 April 1820 Sidbury, Devon. Married March qtr
1851 Exeter Dist X 161, to Sarah DARE.

I cannot find any record of his death or burial in Devon. Several others
have also looked, no luck. He's on the 1851 census, but gone by the 1861
census. He was around for the baptism in 1854 at Chillington, SOM of his
son, (my great grandfather). I have a copy of the parish records of that
baptism in 1854)

The family story goes that twins were abandoned at the Sidford church, and
my great grandfather told my dad and grandfather that they never knew what
became of the girl of the twin. (my great granddad was the boy of the twin,
apparently). The father was supposed to have gone to Australia, and he
built a church out there, and named it Sidford Church. I have no idea where
in Australia he was supposed to have gone’.779
