791“I have no details on any genealogical history, but can tell you that he
appears to have served as a seaman in the Commonwealth Navy in the 1640's and
1650's; was the Master of the Naseby 1659-60 and as Captain, commanded Charles
Fifth (May - August 1665); Mountague (August - Sept. 1665) and Vanguard (Sep.
1665 to March 1666). His final command was the Golden Hand (from March 1669).
He is shown Discharged, Dead on 4 June 1670.” David Hepper
790 (Joan Jackson’s source says he d. 15 Oct 1670)
Martin Carslake served in the Restoration navy. In 1665, he commanded the Dutch prize Charles V, then the Montagu, and finally the 2nd Rate Vanguard. In 1669, he commanded the Golden Hand storeship, under Sir Thomas Allin. He had sailed from the Downs to join Sir Thomas Allin off the coast of Spain, where they operated against the Algerian pirates. Martin Carslake was ordered to conduct offensive operations despite commanding a storeship.
