Devon Record Office: Branscombe parish: Settlement examinations

[from Scope and Content] Now in Branscombe. Went to live at Farmer Saunders' at Thorn in Salcombe, where he lived on and off for four months or more, at several times at the usual wages for ploughboys. Then went and lived for three years, for meat drink and clothes. He left that place seven years ago, and worked on Sir Henry Carslake's at Belstone for 6d a day as an outdoor servant for about a year and a few days. Since then, he has worked with Mr Leigh at Berry Lime Kilns, about two and a half years since, or Newton Spring Fair, for the month. Worked since for Mr Hook at Berry for about three months and then for Roger Mayne, at Cotte until Christmas following. Since then at Witchcomb for ten weeks before Lady Day at 2s a week and after Lady Day at 2/8d a week with his washing and mending, as an indoor servant. He continued a fortnight and then he lived at Sidmouth and worked at brickmaking with Isaac Bampfield for about four months, then he came home to Branscombe and has worked there for the last harvest and since then has worked at Branscombe at jobbing.
