The winter he turned 3, his father, his only brother, a sister, & his Leigh grandfather all died.
30,31 The family left Hayne, but William's widow continued their previous tenancies of Stokes, Salters, Maynes & Carters in Ottery St Mary. She relinquished her occupancy of Stokes about 1899, but remained proprietor and occupier of the other properties until John took over as occupier about 1817.
32 From 1824 John became occupier also of Knowle & Trowhill in Salcombe Regis till 1830,
33 and he was at Harcombe, Sidbury, from 1825,
34 ending the tenancies in Ottery on his mother's death.
