Letter from Portarlington 22/12/1882
To the Chief Commissioner of Police, Melbourne
Sir,
We the undersigned residents of Portarlington and District hereby respectfully petition for the removal of Const Thomas Snowden No.2155 from this district on the following grounds:
1. that he has by his conduct made himself obnoxious to a number of resident ratepayers
2 that he has failed to intervene to prevent disturbances thereby causing annoyance to the ratepayers and encouraged the commission of officers with a view to secure a conviction
3.that he has in spite and without any justification charged a respectable hotel keeper with harbouring 'bad characters' on his premises and with other offences before the licensing magistrate for the district after he was sued by the hotelkeeper in the County Court and lost the case.
