Bpt ‘William the son of William Bartlett, Clerke, and Mary his wife.’404 Birth year, place given as Templeton, & parents’ names, and death year given in two unverified IGI entries. Another gives Stogumber, parents William and Mary.148 Bur entry describes him as “of Hole, gent.”124 How does this fit with the information that his great-aunt Mary Bartlett STUCKEY (1680-1763) was “the sole daughter & heiress of William Bartlett of Hole”[1649-?1704]144?
In Polewhele's History of Devon:
"At Weston there are 4 farm houses.  Hole was sometime the inheritance of de la Hole, then came to Holcomb in whose family it continued 7 descents, when the last, Gilbert Holcomb sold it to Ellis Bartlett.  Hole was in 1773 still in possession of the Bartletts"413 
He inherits £50 & “my silver Tankerd” from his aunt Dorothy BARTLETT, who names him as “of Hole” in her 1746 will237 Branscombe manor rents 9 Nov 1764: Mr William Bartlett for Hole 3s 10d. & for Woottons Sands 3s 4d.10 His will provides for William BROWN up till to age of 21237
