434 A Letter to the Vicar. Branscombe, ca 1810: “Sir, I am rather surprised at your impertinent letter accusing me of deceiving you in the age of a tithe pig. The pig was as old as I said it was, of which I can bring proof and if you say to the contrary you are a liar. You may attack me in any way you think fit. I am in readiness for you. As to your threats of taking the tithes in kind, I can make you a present of an old wig to keep your naked empty head warm if you will accept it. I wish you good night. Henry Carslake.”
