273 Tripartite Indenture made 25 February 35 Charles II 1682 between (1) Jerome Clapp if Honiton, yeoman (2) Grace Kerslake of Sydbury, widow (3) John Kerslake son of said Grace Kerslake & William Rounsewall of Honiton, yeoman: William Courtenay of Powderham Castle ..did lease .. 20 Nov 21 Charles unto Jerome Clapp dec’d ffather of said Jerome Clapp All those two tenements with appurts called Rowleigh in Honiton for 99 yrs if he Jerome Clapp (the ffather) & Jerome Clapp and John Clapp his sonnes so long live yearly rent 29sh 9-&-one-third d, for the third part of the Moores called Whitley Moores 4sh 5-&-one-third d and the Common of pasture then enclosed and to be enclosed 6sh 8d and one good capon at Christmas and a Best Beast or £18 for a Heriot. Jerome Clapp the ffather .. made his last Will .. on 11 Feb 1677[/8] and made said Jerome Clapp his son exor & he dyed shortly after. Jerome Clapp the Exor on 23 Apr 1678. William Cortenay .. 26 Nov 32 Charles did lease to sd Jerome Clapp thr ppty for 99 years if Sarah Clapp the then and now wife of sd Jerome Clapp so long live .. after the deaths of Jerome & John Clapp his brother. In consideration of the marriage already .. solemnised with Sarah his now wife & of £500 in money & estate to him given by Grace Kerslake mother of sd Sarah, as her marriage portion, Jerome Clapp now assigns the ppty to John Kerslake & William Rounsewall .. 10,175 274On 8 May 1708 either he or his son Jerom bought from Sir E Southcott a lease of Wiscombe Park with 800 acres, paying £1700, for 99 years, on the lives of the said Jerom Clapp [of Honiton, Gentn], Henry Carslake son of Henry Carslake late of Sidmouth deceased, & John Lacy.
10,175 Later John Carslake [Jnr] of Berry held a mortgage on Wiscombe, & transferred it to Henry Carslake [III] - see abstract of deed found in volume of Carslake handwritten notes: 16 Jan 1744 Conveyance of a Mortgage Debt on the Wiscombe estate from John Carslake of Branscombe to Henry Carslake of Sidmouth “his cousin German” [=1st cousin]
10,175 Henry is believed to have become administrator of Jerome’s estate.
